Some photos of the seedlings Sarah planted:

(March 5, 2007.)
i was so happy when they first sprouted several days ago. What you see in the pics are eggplant, pepper, and onion seedlings.
Did you all see the call to submissions for a misled youth zine that nick posted? I was thinking maybe i'd do something about gardening. And i want to draw more, so i was thinking of drawing the plants. I could depict the stages of a plant growing up or something.
i'll be planting some more seeds in a few days...

Sarah transplanted most of the seedlings in to their own newspaper pots.

today me and my landlady (no shit!) went to a great conference by a organization called Green Thumb where I learned a lot about gardening stuff. I went to a workshop about garden carpentry and learned about building arbors and other structures in a garden, and also a workshop about protecting crops from frost and weather problems. I also got tons of hand outs about composting, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), youth programs. and more. I want to get worms for out compost pile, and tongith me and nick were taking about joining a CSA on the lower east side. That means for about $300-400, we'd get a big box of fresh locally produce every week for 6 months in the summer and fall. That would be so much better than the shit from the grocery store...
im gonna post the organizations i learned about in the get involved section really soon

ok so i haven't been keeping ppl updated on the garden for a while. today i finished planting the last of the seedlings that were started indoors. That's five kinds of tomatos, zucchinis, eggplants, onions, garlic, chives, hot and sweet peppers, basil, parsley, dill, spinach, kale, marigolds, and nasturtiums. I'm gonna post some photos soon. We've started harvesting and eating the greens, they're really good. Also i learned that some of the things that grow wild in the backyard are edible or medicinal. I've been cooking the violet greens along with the kale and spinach. when more things are ready, i'd love to have poeple over for an outdoor garden feast!

so i can walk again...hooray! i'm down to help in the garden for the rest of the season, although it must be noted that this girl did SO much of the leg work on her own and it looks simply maaavalous. there are so many good veggies out there, it makes my mouth water just thinking about all the FRESH produce. and i happen to know that the greens are so so tasty...hmmm...spinich...
