So today I went to Fountain House, a center for people with mental illness located in Hell's Kitchen. Read more about them at http://www.fountainhouse.org.

I met there with members of the Icarus Project, who we've worked pretty closely with in the past. They have an office on the 4th floor, as well as access to a good amount of unused space on that floor. The thing is, they're only there like once or twice a week, cause most of them don't live in the city. They want to do more with the space, and thought Misled Youth would be interested. So it looks like we'll have access to this space in midtown pretty soon, and we only have to do a really small amount of mailing out icarus books and such in return. We can do meetings, activities, art projects, and have computer access there.

I'll probably be meeting with someone there about it again soon to figure out more details.

hooray!

Cool!

That's really good news. Hopefully we can put the space to good use. Do you think it would be a good space for public meetings, where we invite anyone to come? Or should we keep it more to events with people we've met before?

For example, we could have some kind of open discussion workshop about self-education. I think the first Free Academy session this year was a good example of such a discussion. I guess that drew so many people because it was at a college that participants attended, but there are surely a lot of people out there who would be interested in discussion educational experiences and the pursuit of independent learning.

In terms of using the space for basic MYN meetings, it would at least be bigger than bluestockings. That could be useful the more people we have coming to meetings.

more on FH

so i've been thinking and talking with people more about our strategy for working at FH. There's an Icarus hub meeting next tues. the 27th, which i plant to go to. I wanna bring this stuff up and see if other icarus members are interested in collaborating, since that would serve as more of a bridge to FH, and also spread around the responsibility more. I think we'll be having a combination of internal meetings and activities, and also stuff advertised to FH members and the broader public. I like the idea of self education discussions. I also think that it would be a good idea to do a final run-though of our workshop before we do it at the bookfair with FH members as guinea pigs (in a good way). Also we should meet with people from the young adult program and see how to collaborate there. And I'm gonna find out more about the schedule there and all that.

.

Maybe our first thing at the space could be a run-through of the self-education workshop.
