Hey kids. On thursday we talked a lot about things the mobile art squad would/could be doing, and by the end I was sort of left with a list. For clarity's sake, I'm gonna put it up here and if there's anything to add, we'll add it on. I can buy all the stuff this week or this weekend (hopefully with a generous donation from my school). Also, Gabe spoke with his mother about using the print room at his old school C&C and she says it's a possibility. The other two locations suggested were my house and I think Sarah D's (?). If anyone else wants in on it or can offer up a space, that'd be nice too. Oh! as an aside, they caught that freak pervert from my block, so there's no longer a danger of rape or torture, if we choose to have anything up here at my place. Anyway this is the list:

-8 small lino blocks (somewhere in the area of 3" by 5")
-1 nice sized lino block for the PIY workshop (in the area of 8" by 10")
-2 brayers
-2 packages of cutting tools (two handles/package)
-a tub of printing ink (size anyone? 2 oz? more?)
-Two yards of canvas/linen/whatever
-Giant tubs of acrylic and/or fabric paints
-any other random art supplies we can bring from home (charcoals, pencils, newsprint, sketch paper, paints, paint brushes, etc. cause I know we all got it)
What other things do people want?

Also I got the ok from stewart (my dad) about selling any kind of prints, patches, buttons whatever at street fairs. He says there's ways to pick locations where there'd be a lot of people interested in what we have to sell and what we have to say.
Plus, we should do that bookmaking thing sooner than later. We should make some sweet sketch books so we can do some sweet sketching.

UPDATE:
well I'm updating here because my computer won't load the comments page for some reason. I have three eight oz tubs of opaque screen printing ink in: metallic black, sort of like raspberryish pink and glo-in-the-dark. so I guess I'll bring those on thursday. Also this place by my house sells teeshirts for very cheap of all different colors and sizes, I'm not sure of the price, but over christmas when I stenciled shirts for my family, we bought them there.
um... I guess that's it. alright. cool!

ANOTHER UPDATE:
gabe's comments apparently don't load correctly either, so he says that to use c&c we'd need someone who works there to supervise us. If we were at c&c we basically wouldn't have to buy anything but linoleum. so maybe.

Sounds good.

Welcome to the site! That all sounds good.

With the art supplies, we'll soon need some screens and textile ink for silkscreening, and maybe you could help get them at a diiscount. I and/or Misled Youth can pay for them... maybe we could just get those things before we go to print next time, so you don't have to carry them around.

Nick/Sarah, what size screens and what color ink should we get for patches and shirts?

And yeah, I'd like to make a sketchbook/notebook too, soon.

Brendan

thanks...

wow, ceecee yr my hero! thanks for posting such meticulous notes...

the list sounds good -- now that i'm checking, i see that we have a 5 oz tube of ink, a tool with five different tips, a brayer, a presser-thing, a rolling pin, and i think also some printing paper for the lino printing.

Also i have some little tubes of acrylics but note enough for a banner. And we definitely have the random things. We could get fabric from this store on Allen Street next to bluestockings if nobody has it at home. We do have a ton of plain t shirts in different sizes and styles for screenprinting.

I also have the bookmaking supplies (cardboard, paper string, fabric, glue), and some charcoal and pastels. I'm really excited about the book making, having our own diy books will make all the other art stuff better. I'm thinking now we could use some more really basic stuff like scissors and glue (maybe also sewing kits)

we should decide the color of fabric and ink and the sizes of the screen really soon...we'll have some screen images ready by tuesday hopefully...

i'm probably leaving things out...

art supplies...

we REALLY need a ton of white silkscreen ink, now that I think about it. At least a 32 oz bottle, if not more. Band patches are almost always black fabric and white ink.

I think we should get different size screens. some patches will be more popular than others so we should put them on little screens so we can print them as people need them. Other patches we should put on big screens so we can make 15 different patches at once.

We should also experiment with different types of fabric - good tough canvas that doesn't look like it would absorb too much ink is good.

so, that's what we need in terms of silkscreen stuff.

your list seemed ok for immediate linocut stuff. my dad's a printmaker and has some access to free stuff because he teaches it at vassar, so I can ask him if he can get extra stuff like more ink - he can just bill it to the school.

Misled Youth has money too if you need it. Anything you spend will be paid back.

Oh yeah, and spray paint is always really good to have and we don't have any. It's hard to buy though, I guess you have to be 21 now. Maybe Brendan can get it.

thanks a lot for offering to do this...

what browser do you guys use? internet explorer? if you get firefox it should work. that's really fucked up though... I'll look into it.

oh yay!

it worked with firefox haha. Gabe doesn't have that, I guess we were both using safari before.

so it looks like a lot of the lino stuff we can get for free except the blocks, so we can mainly buy fabrics, inks, and other sundry art supplies.
also by next week I'll have a schedule of every street fair for july.
