here are some projects outta my book everyone say what you think and we'll take a vote or something.
making rubber stamps!
needs:
-an old bike tire
-sharp scissors or knives
-rubber cement
-wood or something to glue the stamp to
1. Cut a piece of tube big enough for your design, and cut one of the sides so it lays flat
2. draw your design on the smooth side of the tire
3. cut it out
4. rubber cement the block and the stamp and stick em together
these two we'd need a house for but they're supa supa cool:
Making a record bowl!
needs:
-an old record
-a baking pan
-a metal mixing bowl
-an oven
1. put the mixing bowl upside down on the baking pan and put the record on top
2. heat the oven to 150-200 degrees
3. heat it for five minutes
4. take it out and mold it around the bowl
and it says you need to work fast and wear oven mitts
and that twelve inch records make sweet flower pots.
and
Making a candle/torch!
needs:
-wax
-a jar
-a pot
-an empty juice carton
-string for wick (cotton string is best)
1. melt the wax in the jar in a pot of boiling water (basically in a double boiler)
2. prime the wick by putting the amount of string needed into the wax until it bubbles. Then take it out and let it harden
3.thread the wick through a hole in the bottom of the juice carton
4. seal the hole in the bottom with plumbers putty or fun-tack
5. pour the heated wax into the mold holding the wick in place
6. once the wax is hard, tear away the juce carton and cut the bottom of the wick
that's not from my book, the one in my book makes a huge terribly smoky candle for like a torch or getting rid of bugs.
or
Making buttons (truly truly diy)
needs:
-bottle caps
-pull tabs
-safety pins
1. thread the safety pins through the pull tabs
2. fit the pull tabs inside the bottle caps (this guy says they fit perfectly which is really cool)
3. with pliers bend the edges of the bottle cap back over the pull tabe and pin
4. then go to town making it all pretty with paint and stickers and stuff
then there's the obvious or slightly less cool ones:
duct tape wallets
bracelets
books
silk screening
block printing
stationary
so that's what's up, what do you all think?
are there things you'd want to make that we could look up on a google how-to or other diy site/book?
