I was thinking, last time was good but hassle, how bout we try it again in the winter, itll be cold, itl be nice to have something inside, but this time its got a twist. We rent out one of the churches, they have big spaces for dancing. We dont invite a ton of punk bands, we keep it simple, small fee at the door, inside we have like maybe one or two dance bands, like ModRocket and some other band. We dont sell beer or food, just merch and shit. We could set up all these sweet light projections. I was thinking maybe we could do it old school, like 1960s style dance parties, lots of crazy lights. We would only have to do clean up and watch the door. With all the extra space we could fit more people in, we wouldnt have to worry about assholes stealing our shit, modrocket would draw in a crowd that likes to dance. We could raise a good amount of cash. know we have a lot goin on and this should be like not top thing on the list. But we should think about it, it could work. It would be in the city, so for some reason, maybe more people would be into coming, it might even seem more legit b/c of the space its in. Tell me what you think.

parties, money, etc

well we could definately use all the money we'd raise, and it could be fun. if we could get modrocket and bands like that it would be great. With the churches, that could be nice, but i'd want to avoid paying a lot to rent the space. I spoke with mel from 1087 bway, she was really usy and said maybe we could do something in september. Jared is also willing to book more shows if we need em. The fact is, now we have to start paying $300 a month at 123. So really, we need to be doing benefits and selling things and having bake sales or whatever every month. On the money topic, I'm looking into getting youth venture grants for the silkscreen studio and other projects. A friend told me that even though misled youth already received a grant from them, we may be able to get more for separate projects.

So basically, your idea is at the top of the list, maybe we can even make it happen sooner. Another good party could be for halloween, it might be more more labor intensive with the decorating and all, i dunno.

paypal

We had a blog post a while back with the paypal link, but yeah I agree it should be placed on the front page of the site itself. Any objections?

Holla

awesome awesome, we do need to come up with a plan to take care of 300$ a month. Im willing to start the beginning of setting up the party, getting estimates, calling bands, and reporting back. The grant idea sounds good the money would really be useful, we wouldn't have to raise money for all the art stuff plus the rent, it woud leave more room to spend. Once we have the spac eup and running we can talk it up and advertise and hopefully make some money that way too. Much love.

making rent

GABE! Youre so GREAT!

Yeah, let us definitely not invite a ton load of punk bands. Let's keep it sweet, low maintenance and fun. Also I think if we keep it on a certain date every month or every 2 months... whatever works, if we keep it consistent we may be able to draw in larger crowds.

I'm sorry Ive been so lame and out of the loop. I'm dealing with a few things right now but I'll try to check the website regularly.

friday nites at ceecee's

hey guys

so ceecee and i have been talking about doing a series of benefit parties at her place in harlem around every two weeks ago. Hopefully the first one will be fri sept 7th. That's only a week away! I'm thinking we should have some kind of creative themes for the parties so they're more fun and ppl keep coming back. I like the idea of "jams" where ppl come together in a casual environment and experiment with differnt art forms whether they're are visual, written, musical, etc. I was thinking differnt parties could have open mics, film screenings, art walls, people playing music, costumes, etc. It would be like 5 or 6 bucks at the door, hopefully we'd bring out at least 20-30 ppl per party. if we do two a month, we'd have our rent paid.

so let's talk about this and decied about something for next week, we need to start advertising the party right away!

Friday night parties

Is the 28th ok to have the first one? it's pretty far into September, but making money is important. It's the earliest date I could negotiate with both my mom and Erin probably. Let me know how everyone feels, we'll keep the same theme (unless someone gets hit with some brilliant idea) and then we can either decorate on thursday the 27th or on friday if there's really no time.

lets ge goin

if the 28 is for sure, we need to get some stuff done. Nothing labor intensive, just some stuff to insure it goes well, and we have a good outcome.

We need to make some flyers, little ones to hand out to our friends. We could each make our own and disto them as we please, yet lets not take it public.

Also, i think we have a projector ill double check it as the date gets closer
If someone could find a strobe that would be awesome, but if not its all good
Awesome light bulbs
Xmas lights
and shiny silver fabric or paper to cover the walls with

I know we wanted something to be interactive, well maybe there is a way to make it fun, but less messy
You know those overhead projectors? The ones they use in classrooms, if we could get one of those and project it in the kitchen or someplace, people could write and draw on it and have it projected bigger on the wall.
If that doesn't work out, we could use as chalkboard maybe? Anything with paint or markers i dont think is safe in ceces house.

I know we dont want to provide alcohol, but i really think we shold provide some, in order to have some kinda of reason for certain people to come. I know we said oh people should want to come and pay for the theme, but i know kids in my school and in others, they are gonna need a bigger prompt to come uptown and pay 5 dollars. Im not saying lets buy tons of beer, im propose we buy like 4 or 5 mini kegs. They wont get stolen, it wont be that much money, and it will help get those assholes to come that dont want to pay for an awesome theme. i know maybe we dont want those people there, but we do want their money, so lets think about it.
Cant wait to see it shape into actions.

party

hey gabe

sorry it took me so long to get back to you, have been really busy with other things

we should definately take advantage of having this space to do parties, and do something on the 28th. I can help promote, set up, and decorate. i am still kinda skeptical about the beer, one reason being that we simply don't have any money at all. i suppose if you and cc want to buy it and keep whatever doesn't sell that's fine with me. let's start making a buzz, we can tell ppl about it even before we have flyers, maybe just say it starts at 7pm. also, since misled youth is broke, we'll have to borrow or find other ways of getting the lights and decorations, so i guess start asking around on that too.

hope this turns out really good...

party on the 28th

My mom wants Erin to be there and I need a good way to approach her about it. I'm gonna try to get her to come to the next meeting to meet everyone, but also I would then hope we didn't have to have a mostly teenage turnout so she doesn't feel alienated. And since she's gonna be there I also think distributing beer is not such a great idea. Anyway everyone should try to get all kindsa stuff for this party. the theme is like eighties distopian future right? so we need christmas lights (red and blue) and/or colored light bulbs, hopefully a projector and any other things you can think of. music music music, make mixes or email me songs and I can hook up my computer to make loud music. Do we want to make a flyer? gabe and I can probably collaborate on that. We can sort it out for real on wednesday. I hope it comes together.
