so i think i will be one of the main ppl planning the PIY workshop for next week, i'm just gonna post some thoughts and others can chime in:

the students should have at least some basic sketches by the time we came in next tuesday the 13th

i spoke with nicholas last night, he thinks they'll probably do one two color project and one one color. we may have 3-4 screens to burn. If we have most of the screens coated and ready to burn before the students arrive we can get more done with them.

It looks like the workshop itself will focus on helping the students complete their designs and learn to prepare them for the printing process. We may also talk about the larger context of their project whether it's to draw attention to an issue, start a small business (we can mention youth venture grants), etc.

I'm gonna post more details soon...

outline

here it is, in case anyone was curious:

PIY 2 Workshop Outline

1. we introduce ourselves, Misled Youth, 123, and the workshop. (15 min)
2. We use examples to demonstrate the screenprinting, linoleum printing, and stenciling processes (30 min)
3. We answer students questions on how to prepare their artwork for screenprinting, covering topics like color separation and using software and computers to prepare images (30 or 45 min)

-- 30 min break --

4. Students share their ideas for the designs they want to create. We spend 1-2 (or more?) hours working with them to develop and improve their designs. We may want to use computers at this time, but we will probably also do a lot of sketching and brainstorming.
