We have been talking about getting into schools talking to kids, explaining our mentality and our work and ultimately getting them excited! So how do we do this? This is posted for general discussion and planning just about work in schools our progress etc. Getting situated and known as a resource to schools could open up so many possibilities for us and take us even higher as an organization. I'm really excited about this new project and i hope it works on some level!
So I talked to my mother about City and Country and how we could do our DIY workshop there. There are a couple possibilities, but each one is different and we need to chose one so we can plan it so we can present it.
First: We get one of the teachers to back the idea who is into it etc and then we take it to the administrators with a full plan and idea and how to kids will benefit from it. I cant say they would pay us for that one.
Second: Personally i think this idea is cooler i think it'll draw more attention and I can know we will make money. However, it is a little more work.
At C&C there is this after school program called Add-in which goes on for a certain amount of time etc. Add Ins have nothing to do with the school, its run through the school for the kids. They send out a sheet with every possible Add In and whatever gets signed up for gets to be an Add In. There is a fee and the money goes to us whatever supplies we need and then i think we would get paid on top of that. We would have to think about it differently, it isn't just one workshop its a series. My original thoughts on that were we do a DIY Add In, with sweet projects and we take the kids on trips to locations around the City. Like 123 or ABC No Rio. It would be like mixing activist NYC with a DIY workshop. Within the workshops kids would learn all about working with each other and why the DIY mentality is so important. City and Country is really into having kids learn from each other and into building etc. The City and Country School was actually the first school to use the building blocks program. So they really love building shit and using your imagination etc etc. I think it would be a perfect fit. We think the next Add Ins start right after winter break so we need to act quickly. I'm sure i can set up a meeting with the guy who runs it. We just need to have a game plan all ready. I think the fact that I'm a grad will make them more inclined. Check out C&C if ya want: http://www.cityandcountry.org/index_flash.html
Really look at the site and read the mission and maybe skip around just the see what looks interesting to you. Just to see if you think its conducive to us. I def think it is.
Aight, sorry this post was so long. I'm EXCITED!
Peace love and all the above!
