Nice work, Sarah! I'm sure I asked you this, but how long did that take you?

Anyone else have artwork to share?

Damn, I'm not even close to being that good, I guess that's why I'm still talking art class in school.

If someone can tell me how to get my stuff on here, I'll put some of it up.

hey thanks guys

The painting took me about 3 12-hr days. I copied from a photo, otherwise i doubt it would have been as realistic. It's acrylic on 6x8 canvas board. Brendan took the photo.

This is how you get pics on the forums:
Go to photobucket.com and create an account.
Upload your image. I think it has to be less than 1MB.
When you have your image up, it will show the IMG code. Just paste that into your post, and it should work.

And definitely check out conceptart.org if you really wanna see some good artwork. I'll see if i have more stuff that doesn't seem too outdated. i haven't been painting/drawing too much lately.

Oh man sarah,
When i saw that at Fly's place i was totally amazed. Youre an amazing artist, i really admire your work. Do you recommend any books for self-educating artists?

thank you

and of course i have a little resource list because i like to spend my time making lists of things like that. not all of them have descriptions yet, but i'm sure you can find out more on amazon.com

First i want to mention an extremely inspiring website -- conceptart.org -- that i would highly recommend

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards
This is a classic book that has been used by art teachers for years. Betty Edwards strongly believes that anyone can learn to draw realistically, and she provides a program that teaches you to see things as they are so that you can improve your artistic skill.

The Natural Way to Draw by Kimon Nicholaides
An even more classic book (first published in 1941) on drawing that focuses on “physical contact with all sorts of objects through all the senses”. Don’t be put off by the demanding schedules and assignments – anyone with a serious desire to develop their drawing skill not only as a foundation for all visual arts, but also as an art form in itself will benefit enormously from this book.

Keys to Drawing by Bert Dodson
In this book the author shares his complete drawing system – fifty-five “keys” that help you to understand and experiment with all the possibilities of drawing.

The Artist’s Guide to Sketching

Seven Essentials of Graphic Design

The Elements of Graphic Design

Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth
Burne Hogarth’s clear, dramatic drawing style and extensive experience make him a great teacher. Dynamic Anatomy focuses less on naming the particular muscles and bones, and more on the forms and movements of the body. Some of his other books include Drawing the Human Head, Dynamic Figure Drawing, Dynamic Light and Shade, Dynamic Wrinkles and Drapery, and more.

Rendering in Pencil by Arthur L. Guptil
This massive book covers numerous techniques, composition, excercises, and much more, with a focus on architectural rendering. Also check out the book’s companion, Rendering in Pen and Ink.

Rendering in Pen and Ink

Dover Pictorial Archive and Clip Art Books – Dover Publications
Dover published a wide variety of copyright-free reference books organized by subjects like Animals, Children, and Transportation. The hundreds of detailed black and white illustrations in each volume are great for collages, illustration, and more.

some other anatomy teachers who've written books:
George Bridgeman
Andrew Loomis
Sarah Simblet
Modeling the Figure in Clay -- Bruno Luchesi (making figures out of clay (starting with the skeleton) is a great way to learn anatomy
