Learning groups and guilds are based on the idea that we are all teachers and we are all students. They are a place for people with common interests to come together and collectively explore an issue or idea, learn a skill, or share experiences.
The difference between a group and a guild is that in a group each member takes their own approach to studying the topic. A learning guild is more structured because the members have created a plan and do activities together. All members of a learning guild have a say in the methods and activities they want to pursue, and groups have the flexibility to change their approach whenever they need to.
Groups and guilds can meet in person or only online. Each group has its own customizable space in the website, with sections for news, resources, a gallery, forums and chat, and more. Your group will also have its own Omnibus so that you can document your experiences and share them with others in the Library. We are currently assembling Toolkits full of advice, articles, and resources to help you get your learning group started.
The best ways to meet people on the website who might be interested in starting a learning group with you are by talking to people on the forums or by searching for others with similar interests by checking out their misPlace profiles.
