i remember at the last AK i was bringing up how some of the features we wanted to build on this site, particularly the Omnibus. I am really interested in a conversation about how recording and sharing what we learn in an online or physical book can contribute to a popular education community like Free Akademy or Misled Youth. Here is the text we wrote to describe how we imagine the Omnibus wold work on our website. What do you think the possibilities are for something like this:

the omnibus
Organize Everything In Your Life Into Your Own Unique Encyclopedia

1. Omnibus noun a printed anthology of the works of one author or of writings on related subjects
2. adjective containing or providing many things at once
3. noun a bus (archaic)

The Omnibus is a powerful tool for organizing, editing and presenting content in a book format. Let’s say you're the lead singer in a band. You could have a chapter for new lyrics, a page of notes on performance techniques, and an appendix of your favorite artists. Each section can be complete with photos, artwork and design so that you can make your Omnibus as impressive as your imagination allows. Using the Omnibus allows you to create an online journal/reference book to do just that.

Not only can you customize the layout and design of your Omnibus way more than other spaces like Live Journal or myspace, but you can also organize everything in it however you like. You can create your own categories and sections, and navigate through them with a table of contents. Bookmarks and stickies help you find your place. You’ll also be able to choose from a number of styles, and pages can be saved as public or private. There will be a personal Omnibus in your misPlace, as well as a group Omnibus for Collaborative Projects.

Since not everything we want to learn is written in textbooks, we have to be our own scribes and chronicle the knowledge that matters to us to share with others. To learn how you can share your Omnibus with the Misled Youth community, read How to Contribute to the Library.

...if you read the info in misled-youth.org/about/site you can see how this will work in the context of all the other stuff we want to build
